Dental braces are an orthodontic appliance worn to correct crooked or misaligned teeth. Braces can also help to correct problems with the jaw structure and bite patterns. Braces aren’t only used to enhance aesthetics of a smile, but also to help improve speaking, eating, and keeping your teeth healthy.
When traditional braces are needed, they consist of small metal brackets that are adhered to the teeth with special glue. Once the brackets are in place, a thin wire is used to join the brackets together. Your braces will be adjusted periodically in order to allow the teeth to straighten and align correctly.
If you’re concerned about the appearance of shiny metal braces, there are clear options as well. Clear braces function in the same way as metal braces but aren’t quite as conspicuous. We find that many adults choose the clear brackets instead of traditional ones.
In addition to clear braces, you also have the option of lingual braces. Lingual braces work exactly like traditional braces; the only difference is that they are adhered to the back of the teeth instead of the front, making them virtually unnoticeable. If you’re interested in lingual braces, please ask Dr. Khuni if they would be a good addition to your orthodontic treatment plan.
