Adolescence is generally the ideal time for orthodontic treatment. There are a few reasons for this, including the way the teeth develop. While each child’s dental timetable is a bit different, the baby teeth have typically all been lost, and adult teeth have grown in between the ages of 11 and 13. This is an ideal time to work on correcting any issues regarding bite patterns, tooth spacing, or crookedness.
As your teen gets older, their orthodontic problems will only worsen and become more difficult (and expensive) to treat. This is because the teeth and bones of the face and jaw will stabilize in adulthood, making them more difficult to shift.
Most of the teenagers we see are concerned about the amount of time it will take to correct their orthodontic problems. Treatment can take anywhere between 6 and 30 months. The answer depends entirely on the specific type of treatment needed. During your initial consultation here at Kuhni Orthodontic Studio, we will take X-rays of your teeth, along with impressions of the mouth. We will use this information to create a treatment plan for your specific issues. We will work closely with teens and parents when creating a treatment plan to make sure everyone is on board!
