Most people can't wait for the day when they'll get their braces removed, even from the very first moment they get them on. While you're aware of the benefits of undergoing this orthodontic procedure and the beautiful smile you'll get in the end, the procedure itself doesn't sound very enticing.
From broken wires to a list of food restrictions, you have to endure a lot during the time you have braces. However, there are some things that can make this time slightly more comfortable, such as orthodontic wax strips.
What are Orthodontic Wax Strips?
When you have braces on, your cheeks and gums are at constant risk of getting cuts and bruises from the wires and brackets. To reduce these risks as much as possible, your dentist will provide you with orthodontic wax.
This is a natural wax made from beeswax, paraffin wax, or carnauba wax. The orthodontic wax is applied to the braces, which then creates a barrier to prevent the braces from creating friction against your gums. In addition to protecting your mouth from minor injuries, the orthodontic wax strips also provide temporary relief from the irritation caused by the braces rubbing against the inside of your mouth.
Since it is made from natural and non-toxic materials, you don't need to worry if you accidentally swallow it. However, don't purposely consume it just to know what it tastes like. While it eventually wears out on its own without causing any issues, you can also use a toothpick or dental floss to remove the wax from your braces.
Orthodontic wax strips can be applied to your braces as many times as you need. If you run out of the supplies your dentist provided, you can easily buy orthodontic wax strips over the counter from your local pharmacy.
