When it comes to orthodontics for your or your child, we know that the decision can be a major one. It’s also important to make sure you choose an orthodontist who’s right for your family. You may not know what to expect during your orthodontic appointments, which has the potential to cause anxiety and stress about these appointments.
Before your braces are placed, you will visit us for an initial consultation. During this appointment, you will receive a thorough examination to determine what, if any, orthodontic treatment is necessary. This appointment is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and voice any concerns you may have regarding orthodontics. After this consultation appointment, we will need diagnostic records. This will include photographs, dental X-rays and sometimes models made of your teeth. Once this information has been gathered, we can work with you to create a treatment plan based on your needs and goals for your smile.
When you visit our office to have your braces placed, be prepared for a lengthy appointment. It may take up to 2 hours to have each bracket placed on each tooth. During this appointment, we will also provide you with instructions on how to properly care for your braces or other orthodontic appliances.
Once you’ve had your braces put on, you’ll visit our office monthly to have the braces adjusted. These visits are only around 30 minutes long. You will be periodically provided with progress reports and will have time for any questions or concerns you may have about your treatment plan.
The removal of your braces should take around an hour. Once your braces are off, you’ll be provided with a dental retainer, which must be worn diligently to prevent the teeth from shifting out of place again. There will be a few follow-up appointments to make sure that the retainer is working properly and fits well.
