When it comes to orthodontics for you or your child, we know that the decision can be a major one. It’s important to make sure you choose an orthodontist who’s right for you and your family. You may not know what to expect during your orthodontic appointments, which has the potential to cause anxiety and stress about these appointments.
Our goal is that each of our guests feel comfortable in our office. One of the best ways to do this is to let you know what to expect when you come in for a personalized consultation.
Before your braces are placed, you will visit us for an initial consultation. During this appointment, you will receive a thorough examination to determine what, if any, orthodontic treatment is necessary. This appointment is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions and voice any concerns you may have regarding orthodontics. After this consultation appointment, we will need diagnostic records. This will include photographs and dental X-rays of your teeth. Once this information has been gathered, we can work with you to create a treatment plan based on your needs and goals for your smile.
When you visit our office to have your braces placed, be prepared for a lengthy appointment. It may take up to 2 hours to have each bracket placed on each tooth. Because of this, placing brackets is done during our quieter hours to ensure you have enough time with Dr. Kuhni. During the initial placement of braces, we will provide you with instructions on how to properly care for your braces or other orthodontic appliances.
Once you’ve had your braces put on, you’ll visit our office every couple of months to have the braces adjusted. These visits are only around 30 minutes long. You will be provided with progress reports and have time to discuss any questions or concerns you may have about your treatment.
The removal of your braces should take around an hour. Once your braces are off, you’ll be provided with a dental retainer, which must be worn diligently to prevent the teeth from shifting out of place again. There will be a few follow-up appointments to make sure that the retainer is working properly and fits well.
