Interceptive Orthodontics Treatment

Early interceptive orthodontic treatment is used to help prevent and correct any bite irregularities early on in development. According to the American Association of Orthodontics, your child should visit an orthodontist for an evaluation by the age of seven. If you or your child’s general dentist notice any problems before this time, your child may even receive an earlier evaluation. Reasons for an earlier evaluation can include the early loss of baby teeth, genetic factors, or harmful oral habits such as thumb or finger sucking.

Not only can crooked teeth cause problems with your child’s self-esteem, but they can also make it more difficult to keep their teeth clean. This can lead to problems with your child’s dental health. Properly aligned teeth help minimize the chances of tooth decay and dental cavities with proper brushing and flossing.
