Soda offers no nutrients and they are also full of sugar, including high-fructose corn syrup. This is bad for your health and your teeth! A typical 12oz can of soda contains between 35 and 40 grams of sugar, which is the same as 10 teaspoons! Too much sugar can cause weight gain, high blood pressure, and can contribute to or worsen diabetes. In addition to being bad for your body, the levels of sugar and acids in soda can cause many problems with dental health. Soda can weaken enamel, and cause tooth decay, dental cavities, and general tooth sensitivity.

Benefits of Cutting Out Soda

Below are a few of the many benefits of cutting soda out of your diet:
  • Digestive Health – If you suffer from irritable bowel syndrome or bloating, soda may be a contributing factor. The high sugar levels in soda have been shown to cause or contribute to digestive problems. Cutting out soda and other products containing high-fructose corn syrup may help you regulate digestive issues!
  • Weight Loss – It’s been shown that high-fructose corn syrup is partially responsible for the growing obesity epidemic! Consuming too much sugar may have a negative impact on your weight. Cutting out these sugary sodas and other products can help you avoid weight gain or even lose those unwanted pounds!
  • Healthier Teeth – Lastly, the high sugar and acid content of sodas can weaken or strip the tooth enamel, causing dental cavities and tooth decay. Additionally, dark sodas may stain the teeth, causing them to appear dull and yellow. If you’re trying to improve your dental and overall health, cutting out soda is a great place to start!
The acids in soda can also weaken the glue that holds your brackets to your teeth. This may eventually cause brackets to loosen and even fall off!
